New Jorge Chávez International Airport Begins Trial Phase on May 15

  • Five international airlines to operate from the new terminal, with exclusive access via the renovated Av. Morales Duárez

Callao, May 13, 2025

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), in coordination with the concessionaire Lima Airport Partners (LAP), announces that this Thursday, May 15, the trial phase of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport will begin, with the participation of five international airlines and a limited number of operations.

“The trial phase of the new airport is a key process to ensure an efficient and safe start of full operations on June 1. This modern terminal will double passenger handling capacity, from 15 to 30 million per year, positioning Peru as a more competitive airport hub in the region,” stated Minister Raúl Pérez Reyes.

During this phase, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Europa, Volaris and Arajet will operate under a controlled plan from the new terminal, with an average of 8 to 10 international flights per day. This limited operation will allow further refinement of operational processes and support the adaptation of airport personnel to the new passenger flow.

Exclusive access via Morales Duárez

The MTC reminds the public that the only entrance to the new terminal is via Av. Morales Duárez, which has been fully rehabilitated with new pavement, signage, traffic lights, and other improvements. Furthermore, since Monday, May 12, heavy cargo and vehicles over 6.5 tons have been restricted from this route to ensure a smooth and safe traffic flow in this key area.

In parallel, the trial phase of the AeroDirecto service will also begin. This is the only public transportation service with direct access to the new terminal, connecting strategic points in Lima and Callao with the airport, offering a safe and direct option for passengers, companions, and workers.

Additionally, LAP has implemented measures to ensure that the current terminal on Av. Faucett and the new terminal on Av. Morales Duárez remain connected via internal roads during the trial phase, for the benefit of passengers with connecting or transferring flights.

All systems and processes required for handling international flights—both arrivals and departures—will be fully operational from the beginning of this trial phase, including check-in, security, immigration, Customs, and others.

“The new Jorge Chávez is ready to open its doors. This controlled phase will allow us to welcome the first passengers with international standards of quality and safety,” said Juan José Salmón, CEO of Lima Airport Partners.

To strengthen security in the surrounding roads, the MTC, the Urban Transport Authority (ATU), and the National Police of Peru (PNP) signed a tripartite agreement in November 2024. This agreement enables the deployment of 124 police officers around the clock, working in three shifts along the airport’s main access routes.

Passengers flying with the mentioned airlines are advised to pay close attention to official communications from their respective carriers to confirm their departure terminal.

With this trial phase, Peru marks a milestone in improving the country’s air connectivity with the world, supported by world-class airport infrastructure and a commitment to safe and efficient transportation for all.
